Five Things On Friday

curlybench2.jpg

I’ll bet that something like this has been done before, but I hereby declare that I’m doing it my way, so this meme is mine. (insert evil laughter here)

What the heck am I talking about?

Well, my Five Things meme, of course. Putting it on Friday gives it some nice alliteration. My meme works like this: I choose a topic and then list five things related to it. Then, if anyone out there decides to play along, they post their response to the topic on their blog (and comment here so I can go see what they’ve said.) Pretty easy, yes? This week’s theme is – Five Things I Would Do If I Could Stop Time. I’ve chosen the picture above to go with the post because it represents a moment frozen in time, rather like all photos if you think about it. (Maybe I’ll make a proper banner for this meme at some point…) For the purposes of this theme, assume that you are the one stopping time, and, as such, you may unfreeze anyone you wish. Ready?

Five Things I Would Do If I Could Stop Time:

1. Sleep – I know. The predictable answer. But just imagine being able to sleep as long as you like, and be guaranteed no interruptions. Good, yes?
2. Read without interruption. – Similar to number one, but again, consider the relaxation potential. You could read a whole series if you wanted to.
3. Take a nap someplace normally considered inappropriate. – Like…sleeping naked on the front lawn. Just to be annoying, you know. And yes, sleep is worth mentioning twice.
4. Walk out to my husband’s work, camera in hand, unfreeze him, and go on photo safari. – Normally that walk would take ages, but this way it would take no time at all. And think of all the crazy photo opportunities.
5. Clean my house. – Again with the boring, I know, but consider the opportunity to get all those things done that you never have time for.

Those are my choices. What would you do if you could bend time to your will?

The Three Ns

The First N – News:

* According to SciFi Wire – [tag]Moonlight[/tag], the complete series DVD set comes out on Jan. 20, 2009. Yay!

* [tag]David Tennant[/tag] is stepping down as The Doctor following the 2009 specials. *Sob*

* Need a [tag]Princess Leia[/tag] costume? Try here. (Someday when I have money…)

* Speaking of costumes, if you have need of a [tag]cravat[/tag] or [tag]jabot[/tag] to complete your attire, try here. (Like I needed any more proof of the coolness of Etsy.)

* The answer to the eternal question: Can scientists dance? is yes. They’re creative about it, too.

* Fellow [tag]Twilight[/tag] fans, did you know that the iTunes version of the film soundtrack will include three extra songs? Yep. “Rob Pattinson’s ‘Let Me Sign’, plus two orchestral pieces from the movie, La Traviata and Clair de Lune.”

Oh, and speaking of Twilight, this TV trailer includes a clip from a scene that I have been waiting for…

Twilight TV Spot:

Look! It’s a tiny bit of the Port Angeles scene! *happy dance*

In other news:

I may go mental before the end of November because…

The Second N – NaNoWriMo:

I am planning on doing NaNoWriMo this year. This will be my excuse to work on my WIP which I know a great deal about, but haven’t actually written more than a couple of pages on at this point. Koshvader and my Mum are totally against my posting any part of this story on the blog, so you will have to be content with vague references. Sorry.

But that’s not the only reason that I may go spare…

The Third N – NaBloPoMo:

Yep. National Novel Writing Month and National Blog Posting Month. My friend JM has faith in me. She thinks I can do it, since I’m only planning on participating here on this blog, as opposed to on all four. Hopefully I can manage it. My current plan involves a photograph a day. It may be a picture of one of the bookmarks from my collection. It may be of a cool event. Chances are, it may involve a cute cat, but you know how I am about cute kitties. Oh! Maybe I can sneak in vague references to my WIP using photographs. I’ll see what I can manage. Either way, you will not be bored.

I have ideas and perhaps some evil plans. So, stand by world!

Back to the Beginning

thinkgeekbloggingtshirtcropped.jpg
Fabulous Thinkgeek T-shirt

Back at the beginning of time when I started blogging…okay a few years ago, I had a blog on Blogspot. At least I think that’s where it was. If I ever manage to hunt up the files containing that information I’ll let you know.

Once that blog went the way of the Dodo, I started a blog over on LiveJournal. I thought that it might be fun to share with you some of my early blog posts. A blast from the past as it were. Look upon it as a sort of archaeological dig.

Then, I went and looked at the first two posts. Oy. Well…at least you might find them amusing in a “I’m bored at work” kind of way. Luckily the third one is a bit more interesting.

(Post 1) And so it begins

Well, this is really a test. But, if anyone is interested, I will be at BayCon on Sunday.
So, look for me, and say “Hi”.

(post 3) Grumble

2:42 AM

Yes, it really is 2:42 in the morning.
I can’t sleep. Well, to be more specific, I slept some from 7pm to midnight.
…and I just finally gave up and decided to get ready for BayCon.
It *is* a 2 and a half hour drive, after all.

Ok, so it seems these new birth control pills just don’t agree with me.
I’m pretty sure that they are causing the sleep problems…and the upset tummy.

Blah. Well, I’m never very chatty in these things, so I’ll just go back to my
copy of “Justice Hall” by Laurie R. King. Gotta love those books on tape.

How times change, eh? I’m a bit more chatty these days, I think. That was the very last time I tried to use Birth Control Pills. Historically they have never been easy on my system, but that new kind took the cake. I barely slept for a week. Not that I was tired, mind. Oh no. I was wide awake. But my body was none to pleased with all of the tomfoolery. I remember that I drove down to BayCon by myself, arriving very early, and sat around in a chair in the lobby until I could check into the hotel. I’d stopped taking the pills the previous day, so by the time I got my room I lay down upon the bed and slept like the dead for a while. Hmm…May 2003. A bit more eventful than I remembered.

Interesting what you can see through a window to the past. Even a past only a few years gone.

Eisley

I’m not sure if you all are familiar with the band Eisley. They’re one of my current favorites. Here are a couple of videos to give you an idea of their sound.

Of Music and Mutants

mutant-grape-1.jpg
Mutant Grape!

Look at the size of that grape! It’s like some mutant merging of several grapes into one that is roughly the size of one of those rubber bouncy balls.

Or rather…it was. I ate it to stop its fiendish plans for world domination. First the bunch, then the world, you know. But I took a picture of it for posterity first so that you all could marvel at it.

Enough about the Mutant Grape. I have a question for you all. Do you ever get trapped in your car by a song? You know. You’re driving somewhere, minding your own business, listening to the radio, when a song comes on. “Oh! I love this song,” you say to yourself, gleefully turning the volume up a notch or two. But then, you reach your destination before the song ends.

What do you do?

Do you sigh regretfully before shutting off the car? Or do you find yourself unable to leave the vehicle until the song ends?

I’ll bet you can guess what I did when “Add It Up” by The Violent Femmes began playing as I was headed back from lunch the other day. Yep. I turned it up, sang along, drummed on my steering wheel, and stayed put until the song ended. Luckily, it didn’t make me late. I find that I can escape the song in extreme circumstances, but mostly I stay. If I have to leave, I find some way to hear the whole thing later.

There you are. Another window into my weirdness. And speaking of that sort of window, it has come to my attention that there is more than one person out there who uses this blog to kill boredom at work. Fear not. NaBloPoMo is coming up. You will not be left bored.

Mixtape: Druid Meet

druidmeet.jpg

I figured that it was about time to post another mixtape here, so I offer you Druid Meet.

I should offer you a bit of history to go along with this tape. Firstly, it was made with the short-lived Personics system. For those of you unfamiliar with it, I suppose that it was an early precursor of itunes. You chose songs from a list and they recorded them on the tape and printed the track list for you. The name of the mixtape tells me that I probably made the tape in 1989 or 1990. The Summer of ’89 included a group of friends that were called “Druids” by the rest of the folks in the dorm. When we got together after that Summer, it was called a Druid Meet.

Let’s just move on to the music now, shall we?

The songs as they appeared on my mixtape: Druid Meet
1. Turn! Turn! Turn! – The Byrds (located)
2. Master and Servant – Depeche Mode (located)
3. Somebody – Depeche Mode (located)
4. California Dreamin’ – Mamas & The Papas (located)
5. Time Warp – Rocky Horror Soundtrack (located)
6. My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama – Dweezil Zappa (I can find no mention of Dweezil singing this song anywhere. Too Bad.)

On the Internet I Live in the UK

youtubeuk.jpg

Okay. I understand that I spend quite a bit of time in UK-based cyberspace. …But I’m not sure how that relates to this situation exactly.

It all started a while back when I opened my e-mail one day to find Yahoo asking me if I was aware that I had a US-based e-mail. Before I started driving on the other side of the road, perhaps I should switch to the UK site. I was so amused that I had to go with it. Then, only a couple of weeks ago, Facebook asked me if I spoke English (UK) and would I help translate the site, please. I shrugged and agreed. Only a week or so later, it asked me If I would like to change my listed language to English (UK).

And now…as you can see above, Youtube has done the same thing. Just this evening.

It has become obvious to me that I am slowly moving to Scotland in pieces via the internet. This calls for some tea.

Pause/Paws

So, I’m trying out this Seesmic thing that I discovered at the Internet Librarian conference. So, I thought, since I have to go to bed early tonight, that I’d let you all see how very pink I look in my old UCD shirt. Watch out for the big purring feline. Wish me luck recording a long Business program in podcast format tomorrow. yeek.
