I’m just popping on for a minute to say hi and give you my happiness for 13 March 2009. I tried to go to bed early, you see, but generally that means that I sleep for three hours and wake up again. So, I’m drinking some chamomile tea and listening to a Muse CD I borrowed from a friend. I think I’ll call her TwilightFan. *waves* She lent me four CDs today. MusicSquee! Three Muse, one Flogging Molly.

You all know how I feel about music by now, yeah?

Well, I’m going back to try and sleep some more. Sleep totally gets in the way, doesn’t it?

Happiness – 12 March 2009

Today’s happiness was quite simply being visited by friends at work. Koshvader stopped by to say hello and later on S. and E. stopped by to visit. (I’ll call them Moosefan’s younger sisters until I can come up with proper nicknames for them. Any suggestions ladies?) It was really nice to hang out and talk books for a bit with folks I knew at my last job. I can’t believe that S. is about to graduate from High School. Wow! I think that’s pretty much everyone in my old book club graduated after this year. And a finer group of young people you will not find. So there.

Days of Future Passed

Pussreboots posted this over on LiveJournal and I had to share it with you all. It’s a vision of what people will wear in the far flung future of the 2000s. At least, what folks in the future thought they had to look forward to. Mind you, here we are in 2009 and still we have no flying cars. Le Sigh.

Art and Happiness

My Happiness for 11 March is watching my husband work on his wire-wrapping. Here’s another of his pieces:

teardrop-pendent.jpg

Isn’t it pretty? At the suggestion of my Mum, he took the photograph with a coin so that you could get an idea of the size. Of course, he had to choose a silver half dollar (which he tells me he’s planning to wrap at some point.) Hopefully that helps you all some.

All right. I’d best be off to bed or this will be me tomorrow:

Of Childhood Favorites and Freedom

Question: What were your childhood favorite books?

I don’t mean your favorite children’s book that you have recently read. I mean the ones you remember fondly from your own childhood. I’m making a bit of a survey, you see. I’m going to try and stick with the English-speaking world, because I’m having enough trouble getting a hold of my suggestions so far from places like Australia and Scotland. (Anyone know where I can get my hands on a bunch of Enid Blyton books?) Yes, this is for a little project. So, please, comment, and have your friends comment as well. You may tell me about as many or as few books as you like.

Here are some of the titles that I’ve heard so far:

Pippi Longstocking
Milly-Molly-Mandy
Jennings (series)
Secret Seven (series)
Chalet School (series)
Lone Pine (series)
The Lost Prince (yes…this one is me)
The Little House
Poky Little Puppy
Black Beauty
Farmer Boy
Where the Sidewalk Ends
Where The Wild Things Are
Chronicles of Narnia
Bridge to Terabithia
The Lorax
The Giving Tree
The Blue Sword
Escape to Witch Mountain (me again)
Norah of Billabong (1st of a series)
Abbey (series)
William (series)
The Adventures of Turkey
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
the Boxcar Children
Brighty of the Grand Canyon
Riki Tiki Tavi
Island of the Blue Dolphin
Nancy Drew (series)
World Book Encyclopedia
Poems That Live Forever
Jungle Book
Freddy Eats Flies
Finn Family Moomintroll

See any familiar friends on that list?

Right. Now on to my Happiness for 10 March 2009:

A Bit of Happiness

Hi all. I’m getting ready for work (my coffee is just now ready, even) and I thought that I’d pop on here and post the Happiness for 9 March 2009. Why am I posting it now instead of yesterday? Well, quite simply, because my happiness for yesterday was to goof off when I got home from work at 10 pm. This does mean, of course, that I have all kinds of things that I have to do when I get home tonight, but it was worth it not to touch my computer for an evening.

A Bit of Catch Up

I’ll bet that you’ve been wondering what Koshvader has been up to, as I haven’t posted any of his photos for a while. As it happens, we haven’t really been out on a photo safari for a few months, so there hasn’t been much chance for photography to happen. He has picked up a new hobby in the meantime, and that would be wirewrapping. So, at my request, he has taken some photographs of his work for me to show you, thus combining his hobbies.

This is the front of his first bracelet.

…And here is the back. Can you believe that he has only been doing this a couple of months?

Here’s the front of one of his pendants. Can you see the circle through the stone?

Here’s the back and the circle in question. Well…more of an oval, but you get the idea. And yes, he’s planning on selling his stuff once he’s gotten a few more pieces made.

Pretty cool, yes?

Oops. I didn’t post yesterday. Sorry. I blame the time change. Yep. That’s the ticket.

My Happiness for 7 March 2009:
I’ve been working on my friend Debbie’s site (Debbieviguie.com) and yesterday I finally finished some structural changes on the site. I have been really enjoying working on Debbie’s webpresence. Have I mentioned that she’s on the New York Times Bestseller list? Yes, that’s right, some additional vicarious happiness.

and…for the Happiness for 8 March 2009 I have –
Hunting for Sea Glass on the beach in Pacifica. I didn’t find that much this time, what with the cold strong wind cutting our trip short, but I had a good time nonetheless. We even followed up the trip to the beach with a stop at our favorite pub. I actually had alcohol. What a shock! It’ll probably be my only drink for the year, so I’m going to count the pub trip as happiness, too.

Whew! And that’s about it for my catch up post.

Hair…Show it

So, honestly, my happiness for 6 March 2009 is my hair.

Here is the image I uploaded to DailyBooth:

(I think the color of the hair looks best here)

This is the pic I got Koshvader to take:

(I’ve always had a yen to be a spokesmodel)

As you may have gathered, I got my hair done today. It’s shorter and it’s a different color. Or, to put it another way, it has more life and is not longer mousy brown. …Let’s just say that it was a hit with Koshvader and let it go at that. I’m thinking that I should get some headbands. What do you think?

*yawn* What?

Funny Baby Story!

So, I was at work today, and when I went over to tidy up the Hindi DVD section, there was this little girl holding a DVD while standing next to her mum. She was probably 1.5 years old.

Me: Is that DVD for you?
Little Girl: (really loud) Hi!
Me: Hi. Oh, I don’t think you want to chew on that DVD.
Mum: Oh! *snatches the DVD away and places it in her basket* *picks up the little girl.*
Me: You probably want this one anyway. *points to my favorite Hindi film*
Mum: laughs
Little Girl: Hi!
*I go off to get some Hindi films to put away, then return.*
Little Girl: Hi!
Me: Hi. Can you say Namaste?
Little Girl: *looks like she’s thinking really hard*
Mum: She’s working on that one. *smiles* Hasn’t quite got it yet.
Me: That’s okay, you’ll get it. Hi is easier, isn’t it?
Little Girl: Hi!

She was so cute. And my heavens, she loved that word and used it with gusto.

Happiness for 5 March 2009:
As you may have guessed, today’s happiness was again related to reading. I spent a most enjoyable half an hour reading a romance while waiting for Koshvader to get home today. Sad to say, the romance isn’t all that good, but I expect I’ll finish it. It’s better than many I’ve encountered, after all.

I’m sure that all kinds of other things happened today, like working on the next A/V lists for work, playing with Twitter, and avoiding the annoying patron at work, but really it all just runs together after a while. Also? I have tomorrow off. Yay! I’d much rather think about that. And tomorrow, I’ll even tell you why.

Bad News and Good News

me4march2009450.jpg
(I am the Celticangel, and I approve this message.)

First, the bad news: I have an ovarian cyst. This means that I have to take a month off from the fertility drugs to let it go away.

Now, the good news: This means I have a month without the drugs. No belly injections yet! Woo hoo. Yes, I’m a bit frustrated about this pause, but it would be nice to have a month without the mood swings/overheating/etc.

And that brings me to the Happiness for 4 March:

What has made me happy today? Another annoying thing put off! Huzzah! Also, I managed to finish The Uncommon Reader today. During a meal, you know. I have since begun re-reading the fabulous classic, Pippi Longstocking. Look at all that reading I’ve been doing! Definitely happy making. What will make me happiest, though, is going to bed now. Night all!
