13 Things I Would Rather Be Doing

Thursday 13: #2

At any given point of the usual mundane grind, I’d rather be doing something else. I’m quite the Rum Tum Tugger like that. Here are thirteen of the things I’d rather be doing (if I had the means. Hey. I can dream.)

13 Things I’d Rather Be Doing:
1. Sleeping. ‘Nuff said.
2. Relaxing on Anini Beach (Kauai) with friends.
3. Watching a Shakespearian comedy, live on stage.
4. Getting a massage.
5. Taking a nature walk in the Highlands.
6. Working on one of my WIPs.
7. Learning to paint landscapes…in the South of France.
8. Singing along to some classic rock (Metallica – Wherever I May Roam or AC/DC – Back in Black, for example) while driving a ’67 Mercury Cougar.
9. Playing at Disney World.
10. Going to a Silent Film theater with friends.
11. Having Tea at a nice little place with many tasty sandwiches.
12. Hanging out with Eideann and Catslyn watching whatever show they’re insisting I watch at that point.
13. Researching something that interests me. (I love compiling information.)

I am the LOLrus…1

Hello all. Here is the first installment of the “LOLrus” LOLcat paradigm. Let’s see what silliness I have discovered so far…

The caption pretty much says it all. Mind you…it’s never previously occurred to me that a walrus might need a cell phone. I suppose that LOLruses are special.

I’m thinking that these cats should stop taunting the LOLrus, because…

…He’s formed a bucket retrieval team! Look out!

No, seriously. Look out.

Perhaps taunting the LOLrus is not such a good idea…

I’m told that a “LOLrus” doesn’t actually need to be a walrus, but may also be any sort of aquatic mammal. Here is an example of this trend, using a cute otter…who is not amused.

13 Places I’d Like to Visit

Thursday 13: #1

Okay. I’m going to start trying to do T13s again with the new version of the site, and my first topic will be places I’d like to visit. Upon reflection, I’m thinking that I’d better get to work on this list if I’m going to cover all my bases. Perhaps I can find a job as a travel writer to pay for all of this…

13 Places I’d Like to Visit:
1. Machu Picchu
2. New Zealand
3. The Shetlands
4. Glen Coe, Scotland
5. The Louvre
6. Dartmoor
7. Cornwall
8. The Isle of Man
9. All the 50 states
10. All of the Canadian provinces
11. Ireland
12. Luxembourg
13. Australia

My Skull: Harder Than I Thought

Another reason to want to win the lottery: A 1967 Mercury Cougar.

Howdy folks. Remember the time that I set the kitchen on fire?

Well, I’d think that said Kitchen was out for revenge if I didn’t know that I am totally accident prone. You see, on Saturday I made pizza. (I know. I cooked. Don’t be too shocked.) And as I was taking the pizza out of the oven a couple of things happened at once. I burned my left arm on the oven door and my oven mitt stopped being oven-y enough. Ouch! No harm no foul, don’t worry.

Okay. Maybe a bit of harm, but nothing big. Just a red mark on my arm, which went really nicely with the bruise I got walking into a sticky-out bit of moulding that they have on the columns at work the other day. Don’t say that I can’t accessorize. (Also? What is with that design feature? Anyone?)

And that was it until Sunday evening, at which point I ventured into the kitchen to get a bottle of water to go with my tasty french toast. (Yes. Two days of cooking. A record?) Now, we keep our not-yet-refrigerated water in the space between the fridge and the start of the cabinets. I leaned over to grab a bottle from its spot, and in standing up managed to slam the top of my head into the pointy bit on the corner of the kitchen counter. Really hard. I must have made some really terrible noise, ’cause the next thing I knew, Koshvader was standing next to me demanding to know what was wrong. Then, of course, the phone started ringing, but we ignored it. I think I might have been too busy swearing. Not sure. Wow that hurt. But I think my low blood pressure finally came in handy for something, as I barely bled at all. And upon closer inspection, the *very* sharp corner of the counter is now slightly chipped. Ha! Skull: 1, Counter: 0. Downside? Now that it is a couple of days later, my head itches right where the cut is. Ah well. At least that means it’s healing, right?

For the record: So far this week I’ve managed to bang my knee a couple of times and had a cat leap into my lap, with claws extended. I’m going with the accident-prone thing rather than the Revenge of My Kitchen. Votes?

Cruising the Panama Canal…

My folks are currently cruising the Panama Canal. And my Dad, being all one with Youtube, has put together a video that is part photographs and part video. It’s pretty cool. Heck. I’m impressed. …And if you listen very carefully, you might hear my Mother skillfully finding out someone’s life story in the background at one point.

Blast from the Past: Hee Haw

Yep. I used to watch Hee Haw. This is one of the bits that always made me giggle.

In My Office Again

Okay. Lots to cover, so I’d best get started, eh?

The picture at the top is Koshvader’s most recent masterpiece of jewelry. It’s been a while since you’ve been updated on his work, so I thought I’d give you a look at a piece that he finished yesterday. He has also gotten as far as purchasing a domain name for a website for his jewelry. You can watch it evolve here:

This last Sunday was my 37th birthday. It didn’t feel like my birthday, but it certainly acted like it. Perhaps it will take some time to sink in. I spent my birthday night at my Mother in Law’s place. We took her home on Saturday, you see. I even drove part of the way in a valiant attempt to listen to my CD rather than sports radio. I drove all the way from the Fruit Yard (Yummy dinner place paid for by my MIL as my b-day present) to Coulterville. It turns out that my Classic Rock mix CD makes for excellent driving music.

On the day of my birthday, I had lunch at a fabulous tea place in Groveland called Dori’s Tea Cottage. If you are ever in Groveland, and like Tea/tea (the meal/the drink), be sure to try it out. Their scones come to the table right out of the oven. Yum! Just the sort of birthday meal I like. After lunch, we stopped by a couple of the local towns (Jamestown and Columbia) to do a bit of shopping. Then, we actually managed to pass by Eideann & Catslyn’s place at dinner time and stole them away for dinner at Chili’s. In deference to Koshvader we even managed to keep the discussion of Supernatural to a minimum (Yes. I have a new tv-based obsession.) After dinner we headed for home. Quite a busy day full of fun. I give it a Birthday thumbs up.

Now, as my MIL is back up on the mountain, I have my office back. And, as I am hoping to move next year (please keep you fingers crossed that I manage to figure that one out) I’m back into the attempting to clear out as much stuff from this room as possible. How did I end up with so much stuff? No. Don’t answer that.

Here are some random things I’ve found so far during the tidy:

Fortune: “You will make a name for yourself in the field of entertainment.” (Really?)

Faded note: “People are as ephemeral as ideas, passing out of reach when you least expect them to.” (True.)

According to the mental_floss calendar from two years ago: “Lawn darts were banned in the United States in 1988 after causing more than 6,700 injuries and three deaths in just a ten-year span.” (Dude. Seriously.)

Well, I’d better get back to it. (I seem to have a book addiction. Do I really need copies of all of Shakespeare’s plays?)

Oh, and as a final treat, here is a playlist with the music from my excellent Classic Rock CD. Enjoy!

Blast from the Past: Cap’n Mitch

Here’s a blast from the past for all of you from the Sacramento area. Cap’n Mitch was a TV presenter on Channel 40 for kid’s shows (like cartoons.) Sometimes he’d go to schools and kinds would be on his show…like me. Speaking Spanish of all things. Wish that I could come up with a copy of *that.* Yep. I already had my 15 minutes of fame. Anyway, here’s a tiny bit of tv from my childhood:
