Behold, Jake! He is a Rhodesian Ridgeback (a very friendly one) that belongs to my sister. Here we see that he is giving me one of those looks. Yeah. I expect that I was supposed to be petting him.

Yes. This is me. Ask anyone. In High School the following things were said about me:

1) I will be early to my own funeral.
2) I would be cold on the sun.

I think that they were exaggerating. Ignore the fact that I am currently wearing my boots lined with sheepskin.

It seems to me that this blog was supposed to entertain someone at work, and I have been falling down on the job. So…here is a bunch of stuff to keep y’all entertained.

* As I may have mentioned the other day, Carl Sagan’s Cosmos is on Hulu. Well, at least season one anyway. Check out episode one here.

* After watching “A Glorious Dawn” did you go check out Symphony of Science webpage?

* Speaking of symphonies, have you watched the YouTube Symphony Orchestra? Check them out at Carnegie Hall (sorry, they are too wide to embedd)- Act 1 and Act 2. (Good music and some really cool stories.)

*…But back to Carl Sagan. Someone recently visited his grave and played a bit of music for him.

* On a sillier note, try the “Geocities-izer” on a website. Make it look like it’s from the mid-1990s.

* Guess where I’m going in another week and a half or so! Reno, Nevada. Am I going there to gamble or take in a show? Nope. I, and a couple of my friends, are going to the National Automobile Museum. I’ll be sure to tell you when to go over to the Where’s Calliope blog to follow my progress.

Harmony, which is slated to air in November, stems from Prince Charles’ three decades of work fighting climate change and searching for new solutions to the worldwide environmental crisis.” You can watch the teaser here. Okay. Lots to cover, so I’d best get started, eh?

The picture at the top is Koshvader’s most recent masterpiece of jewelry. It’s been a while since you’ve been updated on his work, so I thought I’d give you a look at a piece that he finished yesterday. He has also gotten as far as purchasing a domain name for a website for his jewelry. You can watch it evolve here: http://www.astarajewelrydesigns.com/.

This last Sunday was my 37th birthday. It didn’t feel like my birthday, but it certainly acted like it. Perhaps it will take some time to sink in. I spent my birthday night at my Mother in Law’s place. We took her home on Saturday, you see. I even drove part of the way in a valiant attempt to listen to my CD rather than sports radio. I drove all the way from the Fruit Yard (Yummy dinner place paid for by my MIL as my b-day present) to Coulterville. It turns out that my Classic Rock mix CD makes for excellent driving music.

On the day of my birthday, I had lunch at a fabulous tea place in Groveland called Dori’s Tea Cottage. If you are ever in Groveland, and like Tea/tea (the meal/the drink), be sure to try it out. Their scones come to the table right out of the oven. Yum! Just the sort of birthday meal I like. After lunch, we stopped by a couple of the local towns (Jamestown and Columbia) to do a bit of shopping. Then, we actually managed to pass by Eideann & Catslyn’s place at dinner time and stole them away for dinner at Chili’s. In deference to Koshvader we even managed to keep the discussion of Supernatural to a minimum (Yes. I have a new tv-based obsession.) After dinner we headed for home. Quite a busy day full of fun. I give it a Birthday thumbs up.

Now, as my MIL is back up on the mountain, I have my office back. And, as I am hoping to move next year (please keep you fingers crossed that I manage to figure that one out) I’m back into the attempting to clear out as much stuff from this room as possible. How did I end up with so much stuff? No. Don’t answer that.

Here are some random things I’ve found so far during the tidy:

Fortune: “You will make a name for yourself in the field of entertainment.” (Really?)

Faded note: “People are as ephemeral as ideas, passing out of reach when you least expect them to.” (True.)

According to the mental_floss calendar from two years ago: “Lawn darts were banned in the United States in 1988 after causing more than 6,700 injuries and three deaths in just a ten-year span.” (Dude. Seriously.)

Well, I’d better get back to it. (I seem to have a book addiction. Do I really need copies of all of Shakespeare’s plays?)

This is for JM’s site – The New Australian. The image actually comes from a photograph that JM took on vacation in the Grampians (at least, that’s what the name of the pic indicates.) I liked the image for its use of a road disappearing around a bend, which to me symbolizes her new life path.

So, on the one hand…yay! I’m all done. On the other hand…I’m kinda sad to be done. I really enjoy this kind of thing. Ah well. I’m sure that new artistic challenges are right around the corner.

“Fail” is the opposite of “Win.” (Remember them from the slang discussion the other day?) This caption paradigm was do popular that it spawned it’s own site – Failblog. This one has never really appealed to me. I’ve always much preferred “Win” over fail.

More recently known as “UR doin it wrong,” this caption paradigm also spawned its opposite: variations on “UR doin it right actually.” Some of these are hilarious, and others are just dumb. (Yes. Some win, some fail.) Amusingly enough, I do prefer this paradigm to the one above.

I’m just including this one to provide a bit of variety. Often LOLcats can be considered rude, crass, distressing, or just plain not funny. This one stands as proof that the opposite is also true. I like it. It’s sweet.

This is an example of the incredibly popular “Im in UR (blank) doing (blank)” caption paradigm. This one actually transcends the LOLcat genre and can be found all over the internet. This is not the first example of this sort of caption on the site, but it’s the first one that isn’t rude.

In LOLcatland, you can “has” something, you can ask “I can has?”, and you can also state that you “Want”/”Do not want” something. In this picture, we can see a cat airing his opinion of Coke Zero. This is another of the caption paradigms that has escaped the confines of LOLcatland and has invaded other forms of internet communication…and actual speech.
